My fifth grade teacher (Shout out to Mrs. Shurr!) always told me I was going to be a writer. She reminded me of this in a wedding card addressed to "Emily + Eric Johnson" (still weird): "I envy you both [for] all the adventures that lie before you. Alaska, Hawaii, and Portugal, all within a few months. Take it all in, see everything you can, and write about your experiences! I always said you would be a writer, Emily. Maybe this is the start of your career as a travel writer."
Like I said, she's always told me that. In fact, the summer before I was in sixth or seventh grade, she gave me a notebook with the inscription "Emily: the Writer." I only wrote a handful of poems--mostly limericks--in that notebook, and other than that and a few rare moments, I haven't written for fun...despite being an English major. Maybe I'll finally put my college writing classes to good use now that I have exciting events ahead of me to talk about.
I'm venturing out with the new hubsters to places far and wide, adventures big and small. In a few short days, we'll be up in the Last Frontier. We'll call beautiful Juneau our home until September when we'll make a trip to The Aloha State where we'll gorge on pineapple and Kalua pork. After a week in paradise, we'll eventually hop on a plane to Lisbon, Portugal where Eric has accepted a prestigious internship with the Department of State (I married him for his smarts). Along the way, I'll attempt to keep you updated on our crazy life.
Adventure is certainly out there, and we're taking advantage of it!

I have so enjoyed reading all of your posts, Emily. Living vicariously through your adventures. Especially enjoyed the one about the glacier and ice caves. Steve and I will celebrate our 40th anniversary next year. We have talked about going to Alaska. Maybe you can give us some suggestions on what not to miss. Keep on writing, you have a great way with words!
