Adieu, Juneau!

A week from today, Eric and I will be on a plane bound for Oahu, where we will warm up and enjoy the sun before flying to California for a pit stop before heading to Europe.  We have lots and lots of air miles ahead of us.

I'll try to keep the blog updated, but it will be hard to do since we'll be in the middle of a whirlwind of craziness and fun.

The other day, Eric asked, "What do you think both of us have gained from this summer here?"  Here's the list I came up with:

  • confidence in public speaking (Giving tours to 200 or so people a day helps with that.)
  • perseverance (This is especially with sticking with driving buses when it was tough the first month.)
  • adventure! ('nuf said.)
One more:  There's been something I've been considering all summer long...I decided to change my major, and now that it's officially changed, I can post about it.  I was pursuing a degree in English education.  Education is an incredibly noble field lead and operated by the best human beings in existence.  Seriously.  My parents are two of them.  I admire all the great teachers out there, and I admire the passion that they have for helping the learning process of children and budding adults.  It's that passion that makes education worth it, and I have finally accepted that I don't have that necessary desire.  I've suffered through education courses and practicums because I didn't have that crazily amazing passion for educating. I've wanted it.  A lot.  So much that I stuck with education for three years...but it's not for me.  So, now I'm going to graduate in April with a B.A. in English-Professional Writing.  There's been a lot of thought put into it, and I feel more relaxed and, honestly, more happy now that I've made the change.  I feel this is a better course for me.  And if I change my mind and want to go back to education, it wouldn't be hard to do since I made it so far in education courses.

Eric now sings this to me:
