Never Tire of Hiking

At the opposite end of Douglas Island from where we live is a rain forest trail that Eric and I hiked.  It’s a trail exclusive to tour groups from the Disney Wonder, and Eric has had the opportunity to take a few groups on it.

Enjoy lots and lots of pictures!  (I’m too lazy to write a full blog.  A picture’s worth a thousand words anyway, right?)

Devil's club:  known for its medicinal uses.

Shaman Island

I am Emily, king of this rock!  And there's
nothing you girls can do about it.

Except maybe eat my feet.

Natural leading lines to my focus:
Eric leaning awkwardly against a boulder.

Yarrow

Indian Rubarb:  causes sunburn-like irritations.

Random clam shell I found on a stump

Stump covered in step moss.

Bear's bread:  makes the tree think it's dying.

Mendenhall Glacier in the background.

Just birds.  On power lines.  Like these...

And today!  We went on more trails.  We finally had a day off for the first time in forever (i.e. July 12th), so we loaded in the car, stole our landlords' dog, and traveled to the Mendenhall Glacier visitor area and hiked up Thunder Mountain, not to be confused with the one in Disneyland.

At first, he didn't like being kidnapped.

And then he changed his mind.

Sockeye (red) salmon in Steep Creek.
We probably hiked the trails in half the time we would have because Gunner--the fur ball of energy--dragged us along the whole time.

The trail had some "photo stops" with great views of the Mendenhall Glacier.
