It seems that our generation is obsessed with lists. Just look at how hot Buzzfeed is right now. And among all these lists, I've seen plenty about this very topic. I perused them myself when planning out everything for my wedding, so I thought I would join the crowd and create a list of my own. I've decided to base my items solely on what I personally did for my own wedding. So here are my 14 ways to Disneyfy your wedding:
#1 The Ring
Eric impresses me. Nearly daily. Perhaps the thing he's done that has impressed me most was design my engagement/wedding ring. My ring contains an heirloom diamond, pieces of symbolism for relationship, a secret inscription on the inside of the band, and...A HIDDEN MICKEY! Thus "The Ring" being included in ways to Disneyfy your wedding. This is where it all begins right? Typically, picking out the ring is a guy thing, unless you're the couple that goes ring shopping together before anything is official. In which case...
Ladies, behold! The hidden Mickey! Hidden Mickeys are a Disney tradition in the parks as well as a few of the films. Add an easy touch of Disney magic with this little add-on to your engagement or wedding ring.
Don't like this specific design? Just search "hidden Mickey ring" on Pinterest, and find ideas galore! (While you're at it, repin my ring.) Here are a few more designs you could go with:
If you're looking for something a little more subtle, try a princess-inspired ring: Princess Rings.
Unless it's leap year or you're an unconventional couple, this item is also a guy thing. But a hint can go a far way.
Eric wanted to propose to me at Disneyland since it's an important place for us. He considered proposing in front of Sleeping Beauty's Castle (classic choice) but wanted to do something I wouldn't expect. Here's what he did:
When we arrived at the park, he gave me a crown to wear while we were there and called me his princess and other sappy stuff while he put it on me.
While we were there, the song "I'm Wishing" from the film came on. When the audio finished before the prince's part, Eric said, "Where's the prince?" I said, "Mine's right here." He then started singing the prince's song, "One Love," which morphed into a medley of other Disney love songs. I have a video of him singing it to me, but I don't think he'd appreciate me posting it, so instead, here are the lyrics:
One song, I have but one song,
One song only for you.
One love, that has possessed me.
One love, thrilling me through.
And at last I say this now,
And it's like my heart is lifted
Because I love you,
You have fulfilled all my dreams
As you have shown me
A whole new world
With all the adventures we've been through
And as we now stand here, it's so very clear
That this is love, hmmm hmmm hmmm hmmm
That this is love.
And how it's grown, hmmm hmmm hmmm hmmm
and now I know, I want more... (He knelt down.)
I want to be with you, Emily.
I want to see, want to see you smiling
Every morning for the
Rest of my life.
Wandering around single I won't get too far.
You are required for eternal happiness.
Just you and me, I want to be
Part of your world.
So that our own tale we may write,
Every day and night
until eternity.
Forever in love,
Extending up above
If you'll marry me.
That's one way to have a Disneyful proposal. Here are two other options:
#3 Mouse Ears
The day after Eric proposed to me, we bought bride and groom mouse ear hats from Disneyland and had our names stitched on them. We were able to wear these hats at a lot of the wedding festivities. They're versatile accessories that can be used in so many ways:

#4 Engagement Shoot
There's so much you can do to creatively sneak in some Disney with your engagement pictures. Above in #3, you saw that we had our hats with us at the shoot. Here are some other ideas via the pictures themselves:

(You can get these pins for free at the
Disney parks. They also have "Just Married"
and "Happily Ever After" pins.)

#5 Guest Book(s)
Here's a detail that many overlook in general. I've known a few people who completely didn't consider what they were doing for a guest book until the day of the wedding, but if you do a little creative thinking, this often missed feature can be a star of the show.
We had two, one for each reception. One was inspired by Beauty and the Beast and the other by Up.
A current trend with weddings is photo booths. Many have them at their receptions just for fun, but we used ours as part of our guest book for one of our receptions. We Disneyfied this common activity with movie-inspired props.

#7 Reception Music
During the dinner portion of one of our receptions, we played Disney's Fairy Tale Weddings which takes classic Disney songs and jazzifies them (available on Amazon). Here is one of the songs to give you an idea of what they sound like:
If you're not a big fan of this style of music, you can opt to play the classic songs themselves or the scores of your favorite Disney movies.
#8 First Dance (or Other Dances)
In honor of Eric's amazing proposal, we danced to "One Song" from Snow White as performed by this guy:
If you have a favorite Disney song but don't think you could dance to the original, try to find an artist's retake and use that. During the dancing portion of our reception, we also played other Disney songs, some less known such as "So Close" from Enchanted.
This, just like the guest book, is usually an overlooked feature of receptions. But like the guest book, a little creativity goes far. (Can you tell we like Up?)

The cake topper is essentially your expression of who you are as a couple. For our cake topper, we decided to go as Disney as you can go with Mickey and Minnie.
There are some other options. If you and your significant other feel a kinship towards a Disney couple, there's probably a topper out there.
Or you can make your own.
#11 Random References to Disney
You can do these in your toasts, in your reception decorations, or in your board of important dates, like we did.

"1st Disneyland" (vital to our relationship) |
The last three items to Disneyfy your wedding are also ways you add a little magic to your marriage.
Ours was the Kansas City Latter-day Saint Temple. Here we were sealed for time and all eternity, making our love forever for real.
#13 The Prince
Mine is Prince Eric...
# 14 True Love's Kiss
For this, I'll quote Giselle from Enchanted: "To spend a life of endless bliss, just find who you love through true love's kiss."
