Nugget Falls

Recently, while staging at the Glacier Gardens (Love that place!), I was going through my pictures, trying to organize them for blog posts that are coming up.  As I was doing this, I realized that I forgot to write a post about a trail Eric and I went on a few weeks ago.

On the east side of the Mendenhall Glacier is a trail that goes from the visitor center to Nugget Falls, a waterfall fed by the Nugget Glacier.  It’s a huge waterfall that was once covered up by the Mendenhall Glacier, and by “once” I mean just twenty or thirty years ago.  The glacier has be retreating and shrinking, and as it’s been doing that, parts of the area have been uncovered, such as a peninsula by the glacier and the waterfall.

One day, we got off work with plenty of time to go onto the trail.  Eric had been on it before, but it was my first time.  It’s a really easy and smooth trail that only takes about 45 minutes roundtrip.

It’s a perfect trail on sunny days like this.

While I’m on the subject of trails, here are a few pictures I missed form the west glacier trail we went on earlier this summer (post about that here).

We're still trying to get this selfie thing down.

Scaling the boulder.
