I will take any opportunity to make a Disney reference. I will.
In fact, the other day, I was talking with a whale watching dock
representative who told me about a hilariously awful incident. The Disney cruise ships come up here to
Juneau, and, as expected, a lot of children (and children-at-heart) are on
board. Well, one kid-ridden Disney group
went whale watching, and when they returned she said that all the children were
crying and upset. As it turned out, they
had not only seen whales but also majestic orcas, cute sea lions, and majestic orcas eating cute sea lions. A rare sight seen ironically by the most
magical and juvenile tour group. When
she told me this, I took the opportunity and made a reference to The Lion
King. “Well, at least they got to
experience the circle of life first hand.”
The Disney Wonder. Thank you, Wikipedia. |
…that has absolutely nothing to do with this blog post
except that I made a Disney reference in the title.
Ziplining!
We had a company party last Friday at Eaglecrest, a ski
resort by winter and a ziplining company by summer, Alaska Zipline Adventures!
(Exclamation point unnecessary but fun, nonetheless.)
We began by suiting up then traveling in a van up to the
beginning of the zipline course. As we
rode to the course, they appropriately played the Indiana Jones theme
song.
There were four ziplines zigzagging along the mountainside. The first one was called “The Leap of Faith.” And it was. I’ll be honest; it was hard to do, but after that, I felt more comfortable and copied what my fearless husband (who had done the course before) was doing: going backwards, completely letting go, and ultimately keeping my eyes open.
You know, it’s a good thing I’m not afraid of heights.
What kept us suspended fifty or so feet up in the air. |

Look, ma! No hands! |
At one point there was a suspended bridge we had to cross over.
We ended with some ax throwing. I hit the target one time while one of our coworkers managed to get his ax to stick in backwards. Twice.

The one time I made it. |
I’ve mentioned perks of working at the companies that I do
(tours, donuts, waffles…mostly food related).
Another perk are fun company parties like this one.
